Owners of different hotels in Kathmandu, at a recent meeting with officials demanded a ban on strikes, processions and wearing black bands to protect the tourism industry which provides employment to 200,000 persons in Nepal. A delegation led by Hotel Association Nepal President Narendra Bajracharya told Nepal Minister of State for Labour Surendra Hamal that countries like Bangladesh and the Indian state of Kerala have banned strikes in industrial enterprises. Earlier, the joint central action committee formed by the Central Independent Labour Union and the Nepal Tourism and Hotel Labourers' Association had threatened to launch a strike demanding a compulsory 10 percent service charge on all bills to pay employees.
