LTTE Guerrillas fired mortars at a navy detachment in northeastern Sri Lanka and attacked a police post elsewhere, leaving at least 13 dead on both sides, officials said.
Rebels attacked navy's Sallapaiaru camp located in Trincomalee district with mortars and bombs, killing at least five sailors and wounding two, they said.
The attack was successfully repulsed, they added.

In the second incident, the rebels used small arms to attack a police post Bakkiella in Amapara district, killing one paramilitary policeman and wounding another, officials said.

The cops retaliated, with assistance from special task force commandos, killing seven tigers.
The bodies of seven tigers were recovered during a search operation carried out with the first light, a local military official said. Bureau Report
