New Delhi: It's amazing to witness the kind of power that medical science holds. In a bizarre method that outweighs any medical procedure, a surgeon in India grew the nose of a boy on his forehead!

The boy, Arun Patel, lost his nose to pneumonia as an infant after the infection destroyed his cartilage. Side effects of the treatment provided to him in the form of an injection, by doctors in a Madhya Pradesh village, eventually damaged his nose completely.

Now, after a decade, Arun has a new nose through a pre-fabricated forehead flap rhinoplasty performed by a surgical team led by Dr Ashwini Dash in Indore.

As per International Business Times, the four-phased procedure began with doctors infusing a special silicon tissue expander into the boy’s forehead which forces the skin and tissue to grow more than it should.

Doctors also injected the expander with a special chemical. Then as the second phase, they took from the lower part of Arun’s chest a cartilage to create a new nose and attached it to the growth on the forehead, together with the skin and tissue.

The growth of the nose on the forehead gave the boy an odd appearance, however, the rich blood supply on that area helped in healthy growth of the tissue.

Dr Dash later removed the artificially sculpted nose, grafted it between the eyes and mouth and covered the area on Arun's forehead.

The best part? The doctors performed the surgery on Arun free of cost, since he comes from a poor family. The charges were covered entirely by the medical team.

This kind of surgery has been performed once before in 2013 in China, on a man whose nose was damaged in a road accident.
