New Delhi: With diabetes menace on the rise in India, one associated condition that has come to the fore is diabetic retinopathy.
This diabetes related retinal blindness has emerged as a major cause for blindness in India.
As per a report published in India today, about 40 patients visit the ophthalmology department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences every week suffering from diabetic retinopathy.
However, there are reports that enough eye surgeons do not exist in India to tackle this growing menace.
It is also being reported the there is a two-time increase in diabetic retinopathy among children living in urban areas.
The report further mentions that there is a shortage of eye surgeons in India which has made it difficult to combat the deadly disease.
