We are back for the chase!
...THE RUN CHASEâ¦
Wanindu Hasaranga (4-0-20-4) comes up for a quick chat. The Lankan says that he is not used to playing in these kinds of big Leagues and adds that he is happy to become the leading wicket-taker this season. Mentions that the pitches are quite good for batting and the straight boundaries are shorter, so he just tried to bowl his normal length. He picks Shreyas Iyer's wicket as his favourite. Regarding a couple of misfields from him, Wanindu Hasaranga has an embarrassing smile on his face and
Faf du Plessis will be delighted with the way his bowling unit has bounced back after the last game. There was a spark in their performance, a willingness to show their quality and execute the plans. Wanindu Hasaranga got the best returns as a bowler but the rest also were equally impressive, barring Shahbaz who was put to the sword by Andre Russell. Right from winning the toss to decimating Kolkata for just 128, Bangalore have done everything right and would now hope to complete the chase witho
A little recovery towards the end but it won't be wrong to say that Kolkata were blown away this evening! No doubt, Bangalore bowled with a lot of planning and discipline but they were also assisted by some very ordinary shot selection. It was a steady procession of wickets and not even once did Kolkata look to have any semblance of control. Perhaps they aimed too high given the conditions will be wet later in the evening and went for the big shots without even sizing up the conditions. The stan
Right then, Bangalore need 129 runs to win and open their account this season. It's a very straightforward target and with the dew setting in, this chase can end pretty quickly. That said, in this notorious format, anything can happen. Stay tuned for the second innings...
Akash Deep to Umesh Yadav, ! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Akash Deep nails a yorker and cleans him up! Akash Deep decides to go with his pacy delivery and bowls a yorker on leg. Umesh Yadav goes for a big heave across the line but misses. The ball clips his pads and shatters the stumps. It has been a handy little knock from Umesh Yadav but still a below-par total for Kolkata. They are all out for 128!
Akash Deep to Umesh Yadav, ! Another misfield by Hasaranga, this time in the deep. You can call it a schoolboy error from an international player. Slower one, fuller in length and outside off, Yadav hammers it square of the wicket on the off side. Wanindu Hasaranga rushes across to his right, over-runs it a bit and then the ball spins away from him to find the fence. Embarrassing, to say the least.Â
Akash Deep to Umesh Yadav, And again. Action replay of the previous ball. Fuller and outside off, Yadav tries his best to drill it through the off side but misses.
Akash Deep to Umesh Yadav, Swing and a miss! Full in length and wide outside off, Umesh goes hard at it but connects only with thin air.
Akash Deep to Umesh Yadav, ! These are crucial runs for Kolkata! A full toss around off, Umesh is no mug with the bat, he latches onto it and muscles it over wide long on for a biggie.
Akash Deep (3-0-35-2)Â is back on.
Harshal Patel to Varun Chakaravarthy, Short and close to off, Varun jumps and tries to guide it down to third man but misses. 8 from the over. 4-2-11-2, Harshal Patel is done with the ball.
Harshal Patel to Varun Chakaravarthy, MISFIELD AND ! Hasaranga is the culprit. Short in length, outside off and slower in pace, Varun Chakaravarthy reaches out for it and slaps it towards point. The Lankan spinner misfields and concedes a boundary. Probably, a bad bounce.
Harshal Patel to Varun Chakaravarthy, Width on offer outside off, Varun Chakaravarthy once again chances his arms, throws his bat at it but gets nothing.Â

Mohammed Siraj to Umesh Yadav, An appeal for an LBW! But it seems that no one else is interested apart from Siraj! Lands on a length, on middle and leg. Yadav is trapped on his crease as he looks to defend. He misses it and the ball hits his pads. There is a big appeal by Siraj but the umpire says no. Siraj tries to convince his skipper to take a review but Faf du Plessis is not interested. Dot ball!

Mohammed Siraj to Varun Chakaravarthy, Short and on off, a mistimed pull shot by Varun Chakaravarthy goes to mid-wicket.
Mohammed Siraj to Umesh Yadav, Very full and on middle, forced down to long on for a run.
Harshal Patel to Varun Chakaravarthy, A late shout for an lbw! Not given and it has been reviewed. Harshal Patel serves a very full ball on off, Varun Chakaravarthy digs it out. However, surprisingly, Bangalore go for a review for an LBW. The replays roll in and they show that it has hit the middle of the bat clearly. So Varun Chakaravarthy will continue. Have to say, this can be counted as one of the poorest reviews ever in any form of cricket.
Change in bowling. Mohammed Siraj (3-0-19-1)Â returns to the attack.
Harshal Patel to Varun Chakaravarthy, Bangs it short again on middle, Varun Chakaravarthy lets it go again. He looks at the umpire as he thinks it is a wide but a dot ball in the end.

Faf du Plessis there takes an easy catch and the 9th wicket goes down for Kolkata.
Wanindu Hasaranga to Umesh Yadav, Quicker delivery on middle. Yadav pushes it to long on for a single.
Wanindu Hasaranga to Tim Southee, Tossed up on off. Southee hits it to wide long on for a single. 100 up!
Strategic break. Not a lot to strategize for Kolkata here with only two wickets left in the kitty. They have been decimated here by Bangalore and are in danger of not batting out their full quota. Wanindu Hasaranga to bowl after the break.
Harshal Patel to Umesh Yadav, A fullish delivery and slower in pace on middle. Yadav works it towards the leg side. Another wicket maiden for Harshal Patel!
Harshal Patel to Andre Russell, ! CAUGHT BEHIND! The pressure of dot balls induces a false shot and Harshal Patel gets his second wicket. This is a big wicket for Bangalore and now, Kolkata will surely struggle to cross even 120 here. This is shorter and outside off. Andre Russell makes room and looks to cut but gets an outside edge. Tim Southee is in next.
Harshal Patel to Sam Billings, ! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and Harshal Patel strikes in his first over! Kolkata batters keep going for their shots and keep throwing their wickets away. A shorter delivery around off. Billings goes for a horizontal bat shot as he looks to pull it. The ball goes off the top edge of his blade towards long on and Virat Kohli there takes an easy catch. Kolkata needed Billings to bat deep but unfortunately for them, it all comes down to Russell now.
Harshal Patel to Sam Billings, A trademark slower delivery this time! Back of a length, outside off. Billings looks to guide it towards the off side but gets beaten.

Mohammed Siraj to Andre Russell, ! Shot! Back of a length, around off, Andre Russell rocks back inside the crease again and slams it to the deep cover fence.
Drinks break! Just the start Bangalore needed with the ball after their bowlers had an off day in the previous game. They came out with better plans and more importantly the execution in the middle was spot on. Five wickets down and that includes a big one of Kolkata skipper, Shreyas Iyer. Kolkata have a tough task ahead of them from hereon and they need something special from the likes of Sam Billings and Andre Russell to take them to a par score, at least. Sheldon Jackson is the next man

A well-disguised googly from him, it lands on a fuller length around off and seeing that Sheldon Jackson commits himself forward for a booming cover driver. The Lankan dishes out a fuller delivery, turning away, Narine rocks back to heave it over the leg side but gets a top edge instead. Wanindu Hasaranga to Sam Billings, Shout for an lbw but the finger has stayed down. Flighted and full, on middle and turning back in, Billings has not picked it and is hit on the pads as he draws forward to defend. The appeal is not entertained, maybe going down.
Sam Billings is the next man in.
Wanindu Hasaranga to Shreyas Iyer, ! Shreyas holes out! Wicket number 4 goes down for Kolkata and they are staring down the barrel. A very ordinary shot selection from the skipper given the condition of his team. Loopy and full, landing close to off, Shreyas attacks it and tries to power it over long on. He mentions that the team that wins the toss will look to bowl first as it does get wet and it is quite tricky to control.
Kolkata did a lot of things right in their first encounter right from the start as Umesh Yadav set the tone with the new ball. They have a quality spin attack at their disposal and they will hope that their bowlers continue the good work. With the bat, it was Ajinkya Rahane who displayed his class and one of the key aspects of any successful team in the Indian T20 League, is the quality of local talent and Kolkata is the one team that has plenty of them. It is all about keeping the winning mom

They came out with better plans and more importantly the execution in the middle was spot on. Five wickets down and that includes a big one of Kolkata skipper, Shreyas Iyer.
