Arunachal asks Centre to counter China`s claim on state

The Arunachal Pradesh Government on Wednesday urged the Centre to urgently take steps to counter China`s claim on the state.

Itanagar, Nov 15: The Arunachal Pradesh Government
on Wednesday urged the Centre to urgently take steps to counter
China's claim on the state.

Chinese Ambassador Sun Yuxi's recent statement that the
whole of Arunachal Pradesh was part of China was "very
unfortunate", Tako Dabi, the state's Parliamentary Affairs
Minister and government spokesman, told a news agency on phone from
Pasighat.

Similarities in physical features and food habits do not
mean that people of the state are Chinese, he said.

"We are very much Indian citizens and the Chinese envoy's
claim has come as a great shock for the people of the state
who were never ruled by the Chinese," he said.

Chief Minister Gegong Apang, who is in New Delhi to
participate in a meeting of the North Eastern Council, refused
to speak on the issue. He said External Affairs Minister
Pranab Mukherjee had already said Arunachal Pradesh is an
integral part of India.
