Akola, Mar 12: Senior BJP leader Motiram Udebhan Lanage yesterday passed away after prolonged illness at his
native village Pinjar in Akola district, family sources said.
He was 83.
Popularly known as Bhausaheb, Lahane had represented Murtizapur Assembly constituency for a term from 1995 to 1999. He had taken up the cause of cotton growers and headed Maharashtra Rajya Kapus Utpadak Parishad.
Lahane had started his career with Jan Sangh, and was the president of Akola District Land Development Bank here
for several years.
He is survived by two wives, four sons and three daughters to mourn his loss.
The funeral, to be held tomorrow, was expected to be attended by several party leaders including Gopinath Munde and
Nitin Gadkari, party sources said. Bhausaheb Lahane was a close associate of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP president L K Advani.
