BSNL to install 6 lakh WLL phones in rural areas

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) proposes to install six lakh Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phones in rural areas and 16 lakh WLL phones in urban areas of the country by the end of next year.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) proposes to install six lakh Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phones in rural areas and 16 lakh WLL phones in urban areas of the country by the end of next year.
Director, operations of BSNL Prithipal Singh, addressing a press conference on Saturday said that tenders would be floated for procuring equipment for another five lakh phones of WLL technology.
He said that the WLL technology phones were expected to be made operational in Chandigarh within a fortnight. The equipment was in the final stages of testing, he added.
Singh said that BSNL expected to commission national director enquiry system on internet and all India telephone number of 183 at various places within the next three months. Computerised public grievances redressal system covering offices from local level to BSNL headquarters level was being worked out.
He said to increase customer satisfaction BSNL, also plans to open call centres at various places in the country. Eventually all the centres would be interlinked so that a customer can online make enquiry about telephone related matters.

Singh said that restructuring of BSNL would also be done to set up specialised departments for local telephone, long distance telephony and value added services.
