Lucknow: As many as 28 districts in the most
populous state of Uttar Pradesh have been declared drought hit
by a central team, which toured it recently.
According to an official release issued here today, a
central team, which was in the state to review drought
situation, after touring 28 affected districts accepted that
lack of adequate rainfall has not only adversely affected the
sowing of kharif crop, but has also the productivity of the
crop already planted.
The central team in a meeting with the state chief
secretary, AK Gupta said that of the 28 districts toured, it

The team members who had been in the state from August 17
to 20, said that there was a need for full utilisation of
irrigation resources, making operational maximum handpumps for
providing potable water and replacing the faulty transformers
so that power supply could be improved.
They also put forth suggestions for distribution of
mini seed kits, sprinkler sets among the farmers besides
setting up community kitchens, cattle camps and improving
power supply, the release added.
