Nandigram, March 21: A CPI-M office was set on fire
and several shops were ransacked today by activists of a
Trinamool Congress-backed body at Tekhali village, one of the
spots here where police firing had claimed 14 lives last
week.

East Midnapore's Superintendent of Police G A Srinivas
said the CPI-M party office at Tekhali Bazar was set on fire
by members of the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee, which had
organised a peace procession in the area.

Rumours that bombs were thrown by CPI-M cadres at BUPC
members had angered the processionists and the CPI-M office
bore the brunt of their ire, BUPC core committee member Abu
Taher said.

IGP (Law & Order) Raj Kanojia said in Kolkata that a
number of shops were vandalised after an altercation between
BUPC members and CPI-M supporters.
