People wearing black clothes, including women with shawls or woollen pull-overs were not allowed to enter the enclosures for the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's election meeting at Phool Bagh in Kanpur.
Anyone walking wearing anything black was stopped by the securitymen. They were asked either to keep it away or remain out of the vicinity of the historic Phool Bagh.

When asked, a senior police officer told reporters that anything of black colour, even handkerchief, was not allowed but did not give any reason.

Many people remained on the roadside as they were wearing black clothes.
