Patna, July 10: Former Bihar Chief Minister Abdul Ghafoor died in Patna on Saurday following prolonged illness. He was 86.
Ghafoor is survived by a son and two daughters.
He was Chief Minister of Bihar from July 2, 1973 to April 11, 1975.
Ghafoor also became Minister for Urban Development in the Rajiv Gandhi Cabinet in 1984.
He was also a former Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council and was elected to the Lok Sabha twice in 1984 and 1996 on Congress and Samata Party tickets from Siwan and Gopalganj parliamentary constituencies respectively.
Ghafoor was elected to the state assembly for the first time in 1952.
His last rites will be performed at his native Saraia-Akhtiyar village in Gopalganj district on Saturday his son and a former member of the Bihar Legislative Council Abdul Mannan said.
Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Bihar Assembly Speaker Sadanand Singh, Legislative Council Chairman Jabir Hussain, former assembly Speaker Radhanandan Jha, Union Minister Mohammed Taslimuddin and RJD MP Raghunath Jha have condoled the death of Ghafoor.
