Mandya, Sept 09: Hundreds of farmers today staged a
protest at the KRS dam in Mandya district against release of
Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu but there were no road blockades
which had affected the Bangalore-Mysore traffic since
Wednesday last.

Travelling in lorries and buses and other modes of
transport, the farmers gathered at the Krishnarajasagar dam as
part of their "KRS chalo" programme and held a rally there but
no untoward incident was reported, police said.

Despite Cauvery River Authority (CRA) meeting, convened
by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Delhi yesterday,
slashing the quantum of release of water from Karnataka to
Tamil Nadu to 9,000 cusecs (0.8 tmc ft), farmers said they
were not happy with the decision.

The protest organised under the banner of the committee
for protection of interests of Mandya district farmers did not
however affect road traffic as there were no reports of any
blockades.

Train services between Bangalore and Mysore which were
suspended yesterday following the "rail bandh" called by the
agitators were resumed today.
