Govt approves ex-gratia for Gujarat riot victims

Government tonight approved ex-gratia grant of Rs 3.5 lakh as relief and rehabilitation to the next of kin of each of the 1,169 people killed in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

New Delhi, March 22: Government tonight approved ex-gratia grant of Rs 3.5 lakh as relief and rehabilitation to the next of kin of each of the 1,169 people killed in the 2002
Gujarat riots.

An amount of Rs 1.25 lakh will be given to each of the 2,504 injured in the riots, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after a Cabinet meeting here.

He said these were the cases reported by the state government. If there were any cases that have been left out, Centre was open to considering them, he said.
