Chandigarh, Aug 23: Former Haryana Congress president Bhupinder Singh Hooda was today elected unopposed leader of Congress Legislature Party in the state assembly here.

Hooda has been elected to fill the vacancy caused due to the resignation of former chief minister Bhajan Lal who has been appointed Haryana Pradesh Congress president.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi had recently asked Bhajan Lal and Hooda to swap places.
Congress general secretary Mohisina Kidwai was present during the election conducted in the party office here.

Hooda later submitted a letter in the assembly secretariat staking claim to the post of Leader of Opposition.

His claim had earlier been rejected by Speaker Satbir Singh Kadian as his request was not accompanied by a resolution electing him as a leader of the CLP.

Nineteen of 20 members in the assembly participated in the election process.
