Kalam wants scientists to propagate success stories in science

President A P J Abdul Kalam today exhorted scientists to propagate success stories in space, IT, agriculture and other fields to motivate the youth to pursue career in research and development.

space, IT, agriculture and other fields to motivate the youth
to pursue career in research and development.

Responding to a query by a student during the 99th
birthday celebrations of Sri Sri Shivakumara Swamiji of
Siddaganga Math here, Kalam said it was for the scientists to
ignite the young minds by telling them about the achievements
of the scientific community.

Premier institutes like the Indian Institute of Science
(IISc) are standing examples of contribution to research and
development, he said.

To another question on meeting the demand of the
rising number of students by increasing the number of IITs
and such technical institutions, Kalam said the 12-regional
engineering colleges in the country were being upgraded to IIT
standards.

The Government also plans to increase the number of
institutes like IITs and also the student intake in them, he
said.

On inter-linking of rivers, Kalam said a team had been
appointed to study this and was working on it.
