Karnataka government to extend term of Mayors

Bangalore, June 07: “The government would soon amend the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act to extend the term of office of mayors and deputy mayors, from the present one year to 20 months,” minister for urban development B B Chimmanakatti said today.

office of mayors and deputy mayors, from the present one year
to 20 months,” minister for urban development B B Chimmanakatti
said today.

He told reproters here that the matter would be placed
before the June 10 cabinet meeting for approval. An ordinance
would be issued later.

After promulgation of the ordinance, the terms of Mayors
and Deputy Mayors of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, the city
corporations of Hubli-Dharwar, Belgaum and Gulbarga will
automatically extend to 20 months.

Chimmanakatti said “ the Bellary city Municipal Corporation
would be upgraded as a city corporation, as it has a
population of over three lakh.”
