The Lok Sabha on Monday plunged into
turmoil over the issue of a judicial probe into Kashmir
massacres with opposition benches sharply divided over it,
forcing the chair to abruptly adjourn the house ahead of the
Agitated Congress members trooped into the well shouting,
“We want judicial probe.” Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed adjourned
the house after his repeated pleas to restore order went
Congress members repeatedly clashed with those from the
National Democratic Alliance as well as Samajwadi Party, left parties and former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar who demanded an immediate discussion on the situation in Jammu & Kashmir.
Raising the matter during zero hour, Congress deputy
leader Madhavrao Scindia said even Defence Minister George
Fernandes had admitted that there had been security lapses
resulting in the killings last week.

whether he should continue to remain in the post, Scindia
said while some of his party colleagues and RJD leader
Raghuvansh Prasad Singh sought his resignation.
Pointing to differences in the opposition ranks on the
issue of judicial inquiry, Parliamentary Affairs Minister
Pramod Mahajan said an executive inquiry had already been
ordered by the state government and that Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee had in his statement on Friday made it clear
that if required, the government would consider ordering such
