Patna, Nov 27: The 10-member Lok Janshakti Party
legislative group today elected Maheshwar Singh as its leader
in the 14th Bihar Assembly.

Singh, a former JD (U) MLA who joined the LJP and won
Harsidhi seat in east Champaran district, was elected the
leader at a meeting of the newly elected LJP MLAs here.

State party president Ghulam Rasool Balyiawi told
reporters that party chief Ram Vilas Paswan's younger brother
and MLA from Alauli, Pashupati Kumar Paras moved the proposal
for Singh's election which was unanimously accepted.

The party also elected Dular Chand Yadav, who had stayed
with paswan during flight of maximum rebel ljp mlas after the
February election, as deputy leader and Maheshwar Hazari as
chief whip of the party in the assembly.

Singh said despite poor performance LJP's morale had not
not gone down and the party would play the role of a
"constructive opposition".

"LJP MLAs will highlight the failure of the NDA
government both inside and outside the assembly," Singh said.

"We will ensure that NDA respect the mandate and
fulfill its promise of improving law and order situation
within three months and maintaining communal harmony in the
state, failing which the LJP will take to the streets with the
peoples' problem", the newly elected leader said.
