Major police shake up in Punjab

In a major shake up, the Punjab government has transferred 52 senior level police officers, including 11 Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), 14 Inspector General of Police (IGP) and four Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG), an official spokesman said on Monday.

As many as 19 districts, including Amritsar, Majitha, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda and Moga will have new police chiefs, the spokesman said.

Punjab railways DGP Jarnail Singh Chahal has been transferred as DGP-chairman Punjab Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) Patiala, he added.

Among the transferred officers, 48 are from Indian Police Service (IPS) and four from Punjab Police Service (PPS).
