Lolab (J&K), Sept 12: Panic gripped hundreds of people attending the funeral of assassinated Jammu and Kashmir law minister Mustaq Ahmad Lone here today as militants fired on a military convoy passing nearby in Kupwara district.
The sound of grenade explosions and firing threw the security of the dignitaries, including chief minister Farooq Abdullah, his ministers and National Conference president Omar Abdullah, into a tizzy.
The chief minister said these were attempts by Pakistan to disrupt the democratic process in the state.
"These killings and attacks are meant to disrupt the poll in the state but you will find no change in our resolve to go ahead with the process," Abdullah told reporters.
On whether Lone's killing was a security lapse, Abdullah replied in the negative saying "our enemy is planning to carry out these attacks and we are also planning to prevent them".
Asked whether there would be a probe into the killing, Abdullah said no to the probe.
