Yavatmal, Dec 17: Though hectic
efforts are on in the camps of all political parties to
install their nominees as chiefs of the seven municipal
councils in the district that went to polls recently, there
is an unusual poll partnership in Ghatanji.
Municipal council chiefs will be elected on Sunday.

They had an absolute majority to install their president
and vice president. However, after the results, the BJP
demanded the president's post and offered vice president's
chair to NCP, which rejected the offer. The BJP ended its pact
with NCP and won the support of the Sena.
When the day came for the co-opted members of the
council, the Sena changed its stance and requested the BJP to
support at least one of its nominees for the co-opted
membership which the BJP turned down.
The BJP then approached NCP, which accepted the former's
earlier claim. Local BJP leader Satish Malkapure said
president of Ghatanji Council would be from among the BJP
councillors while the NCP would get the deputy's post.
In Yavatmal, the Parivartan panel of sitting BJP MLA from
Digras Sanjay Deshmukh has won 13 of the 21 seats. In Wani,
Darwha, Pusad and Umarkhed, no party or panel could get a
workable majority and hence the presidents and vice
presidents would be elected after talks between Congress, NCP
