Kolkata, Aug 10: With the rapid advances in endoscopy that has given a boost to diagnosis of gastric ailments, complications like peptic ulcer and fatal malignancy would soon be completely eradicated, experts at a zonal
workshop said here today.
"With the widespread availability of new age endosonographs -- a combination of endoscopy and ultrasound models -- we have been able to diagnose and conquer helicobactor pylori that causes peptic ulcer," eminent
gastroenterologist and co-ordinator of the second eastern zonal gastrointestinal (GI) therapeutic endoscopy workshop Dr S Patnaik said.
With the diagnosis of the causative agent, the anomaly, which till recently needed surgical treatment, has been nearly conquered, he said at the inaugural ceremony of the two day workshop organised by Kothari medical centre.
Patnaik said that as medical professionals are empowered with the technology to penetrate the gi tract and review the full extent and nature of abnormality at a microscopic level, it has become possible to prevent certain gastric malignancies at a primary stage.
Chief co-ordinator of the workshop Dr K N Jalan, who would lead a team of experts to train medicos from the eastern region on the latest advents of GI endoscopy, said ultrasonography image of internal organs by use of sound waves had greatly contributed to the diagnosis of intra-abdominal
diseases like tumour, cyst abcess and made ultrasound guided biopsy a new possibility.
