Mumbai, Jan 02: In order to promote vegetarianism, a Jain business body is preparing to launch an "Ahimsa Credit Card".
Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO), a global organisation for Jain community members, is preparing to launch the first-of-its-kind credit card by the end of the current fiscal.
"We are in talks with a leading public sector bank to launch a co-branded Ahimsa Credit Card in the next three months," JITO Secretary General Hemant Shah told PTI.
"The Credit Card would be a medium to remind people about the benefits of vegetarianism through Ahimsa (non-violence) and a large number of commercal establishments run by members of the Jain community will participate in the venture to offer discounts and schemes," Shah said.
Non-violence is one of the most significant postulate of Jainism.
"In the initial months, we would try to include about 100,000 members of JITO but it would be also open to all people, irrespective of their beliefs, to inspire them to take up vegetarianism," Shah said.
JITO is also hosting a four-day global business summit here from January 4 where Jain businessmen and industrialists from about 40 countries apart from India will participate, he added.
