The STD facility to the PCOs in Jammu and Kashmir would be restored on Saturday, much to the delight of the people of the Valley.

We have completed 80 per cent restoration work and the Public Call Offices (PCOs) will be operational within few hours, general manager telecommunication (Gmt) Sunil Kumar told a news agency.
Kumar said, as per the directive of the Centre received on Friday night, the STD facility was to be restored.

He said the decision to restore the facility in the state was taken following persistent persuasion by the state government and his office in view of unemployment of PCO
operators and hardships faced by the people.

STD and Internet facilities were withdrawn earlier this year for security reasons in view of massing of troops along the border by India and Pakistan following the December 13 attack on Parliament.

Kumar said Internet facility will also be resumed shortly.

The restoration process will, however, take some time as we have to re-link a large number of PCO across the Valley, He added.
