Review: Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ is unmissable!

Legends leave but they still live on. What would you not expect from ‘King of Pop’s’ last tryst, and why would you even think it won’t be good? But just in case you thought you might just miss ‘This Is It’, the last tribute to Michael Jackson - a legend, you really need to pull up your socks and run to a theatre near you to grab a ticket before it goes off cinemas. For if you miss this, you miss it all!

For if you miss this, you miss it all!Helmed by Kenny Ortega, who was earlier directing his concerts, it is a film which gives us a sight into the spectacle Michael Jackson was planning in the form of ‘This Is It’. The flick is so ‘MJ’ if we can call it that. An inspiring, foot-tapping concert documentary, this proves to be the perfect curtain call for the ‘King of Pop’. It unravels the series of events from April through June this year, where Michael rehearsed for 50 sold out concerts that were to be held in the summer. It’s soul stirring to see MJ say at a press conference that, “This is it. This is the final curtain call.” It is heart wrenching at the same time as the concerts, of course, couldn’t happen. Instead, we have a film, which gives us a glimpse into the spectacle Jackson was planning. The film is 111 minutes of rehearsal footage artfully put together. You have Jacko’s dancers, singers, musicians, prop men and costume designers talking about the impact they were trying to create but mostly we have Jackson belting out the songs that made him a legend—from ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ to ‘Thriller’. The music is communicable and the flick says just one thing that Jackson’s talent was so forceful that you would have to be dead to not respond to it. It shows MJ’s physical changes, his complexities, his vulnerability, for where would you see his licking a lollipop? It doesn’t seem that Jacko’s even slightly fatigued, he’s shown asking his crew to work hard and take the audience to a place where they have never been before. See it to know more about MJ’s style of working and also what the world missed. High on recommendation. Rating: Four stars without doubt.
