291 new COVID-19 patients found in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, 28 deaths

India reports 9,304 new coronavirus COVID-19 cases and 260 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country has now mounted to 2,16,919 which includes 1,06,737 active cases, 1,04,107 cured and 6,075 deaths, as per the data by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

New Delhi: India reports 9,304 new coronavirus COVID-19 cases and 260 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country has now mounted to 2,16,919 which includes 1,06,737 active cases, 1,04,107 cured and 6,075 deaths, as per the data by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday (June 4, 2020).

The recovery rate reached 48.19% amongst coronavirus patients, the health ministry said. India is currently ranked seventh country in the world to register more than 2 lakh COVID-19 cases in just a fortnight after crossing the 1-lakh mark.

Meanwhile, the union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday took several landmark decisions concerning the farm sector to help boost farmers` incomes and transform the agriculture sector. This includes approval to amendment to the Essential Commodities Act and two ordinances - Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020.

With 291 new coronavirus patients found since previous evening, the number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat reached 13,354 on Thursday. Out of 33 coronavirus patients who died in Gujarat during this period, 28 patients died in different hospitals in Ahmedabad city alone, said a statement by Health Department. At the same time, out of 455 patients who were discharged from hospitals across Gujarat during the day, 296 were from Ahmedabad. The district accounts for 938 of 1,155 COVID-19 deaths in Gujarat so far. 262 positive cases were recorded in Ahmedabad city in the last 24 hours while 29 patients were found in rural areas of Ahmedabad district. A DMK legislator has tested positive for coronavirus and he is on ventilatory support battling severe acute respiratory distress. The 61-year-old, a senior party leader in the state capital, was admitted on June 2, Dr Rela Institute and Medical Centre said in a statement today. He was having severe acute respiratory distress and his COVID PCR test was positive at the time of admission, hospital's Chief Executive Officer Dr Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy said. The MLA is a well-known DMK leader and he is also among the party's district secretaries in Chennai. (PTI)

Nagaland today registered the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 22 infections, Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnya Phom said. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has increased to 80. All the 22 people returned from Chennai recently, he said. "Out of 171 samples tested at the BSL-3 Lab at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and Dibrugarh in Assam, 22 more returnees from Chennai have tested COVID-19 positive," the minister tweeted. Of the total 80 cases, Dimapur district has reported 57, followed by Kohima (17), Tuensang (5) and Peren (1).

Kerala reported its 12th COVID-19 fatality today with swab samples of a 73-year old woman, who died two days ago here, testing positive for the coronavirus, officials said. The woman, who returned from Chennai on May 25, was under home quarantine and admitted to a hospital three days later following high fever. She died on Tuesday. "She also had age-related ailments," a senior medical officer from the district told PTI. As per the bulletin, the state has till now reported 1,494 COVID-19 cases of them 651 have recovered. Twelve people have died due to the disease. (PTI)

The Uttarakhand government today announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of those who die of COVID-19 in the state. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat while reviewing the coronavirus situation in the state through a video conference with officials. He also asked officials to ensure strict compliance of the Union government guidelines for containment zones and take stern action against violators. Rawat underlined the need for field surveillance to ensure strict adherence to the norms by people. (PTI)

Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has directed the district administrations to take action as per the law against those who are not wearing masks, amid the rising coronavirus cases in the city. On April 8, the Delhi government made face masks compulsory for anyone stepping out of their house, including while travelling in personal or official vehicles. Baijal along with Delhi Health Minister and DMs on Thursday participated in a video conference chaired by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. The number of COVID-19 cases crossed the 9,000 mark in Uttar Pradesh today with 367 fresh infections being reported in last 24 hours, while the death toll rose by 15 to 245. The total number of COVID-19 cases went up to 9,237, principal secretary of health Amit Mohan Prasad said. The number of those recovered and discharged from hospitals stood at 5,439, while 245 people died due to the virus, Prasad said. The number of active cases was 3,553. (PTI)

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain today said that since the launch of the Delhi Corona App many people have enquired about COVID-19 beds, but there are a lesser number of actual users. "Since the launch of Delhi Corona App, various people are inquiring for beds but actual users are less. This is sort of window shopping. Three more hospitals have been converted, there will be no lack of beds," he said on reports of difference in number of beds in hospitals and the App. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched the mobile application `Delhi Corona App` for the convenience of COVID-19 affected people in the national capital. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant On Thursday visited a containment zone in Vasco town that has recorded 42 COVID-19 cases in the last two days. As many as 42 cases of novel coronavirus have been detected from Mangor Hill area since Tuesday evening, when a family of six tested positive for the deadly infection. Taking to Twitter, the chief minister said, "In view of new cases of #COVID19 coming to light in Mangor Hill area, I visited Vasco today to take stock of the situation on ground. Stringent measures have been put in place and we are fully geared up to deal with the cases." (PTI)

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday authorised the State Health Department to use his government aircraft for bringing necessary equipments from other states to Uttar Pradesh amid coronavirus pandemic. According to the Union Health Ministry, Uttar Pradesh has recorded 8,729 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, out of which 3,324 are active cases.Out of the total, 5,176 people have been cured and 229 have died due to lethal infection in the state. At least 47 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Assam on Thursday, a day after the state recorded its highest single-day spike of 269 coronavirus cases, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state currently stands at 1,877. Among the fresh cases, 33 are from Hojai, six from Dhemaji, four from Bongaigaon, three from Barpeta and one from Baksa, the minister said. (PTI)

Trinamool Congress (TMC) member of the Lok Sabha Kalyan Banerjee went into home quarantine on Thursday after one of his security personnel tested Covid-19 positive on Wednesday. The security person was admitted to the Bangur Hospital. "Around 12 members of my household, including me, have chosen to go for home quarantine. There is no Covid-19 symptom in any of us. Maharashtra PWD Minister and Senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan, who tested positive for coronavirus last month, was discharged from a hospital here on Thursday after recovering from the disease. After being discharged, the former chief minister reached his home to a warm welcome from his family members. Chavan was admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai on May 25 after his test report came out positive for coronavirus. The Minister was in Nanded when he tested positive for the infection last month and was brought to Mumbai for treatment. Chavan is an MLA from Bhokar constituency in Nanded district. (PTI)

Delhi's Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital doesn't give test reports on time. "70% of people are dying within 24 hours of reaching the hospital as their test reports come in 5-7 days. This is absolutely wrong, reports should come within 24 hours," Satyendar Jain said, adding "Recently, the Hospital tested 94% samples as positive in a day, on retesting we found 45% of these to be negative."
