The parents of the doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital expressed their disappointment on Friday after the Sealdah Court granted bail to Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the college, and Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station. They described it as a failure of the system as the two key accused were granted bail after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to file the chargesheet within the legally required 90-day period.
A court in Kolkata's Sealdah of West Bengal granted bail on Friday to Dr Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal in connection with a rape and murder case.
"We thought the CBI would speed up the investigation and bring those responsible to justice. But now, with the accused being granted bail, it feels like the system is failing us," said the mother of the victim.
"Every day, we wonder if this will be another case in which the powerful escape without punishment," she added.
The CBI was handed the investigation into the case by the Calcutta High Court but failed to file a chargesheet against the accused within the 90-day period which led to the bail of the accused.
"We are heartbroken. We trusted the CBI to deliver justice, but now we are left wondering if we will ever see justice for our daughter," said the victim's father, PTI reported.
Dr Ghosh, who is also an accused in a separate case of financial irregularities at the RG Kar hospital, will remain in custody despite the bail in the rape-murder case, according to his lawyer.
