THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An ambulance driver from Kerala on Wednesday rushed a one-month-old baby for an urgent surgery, driving a distance of 516 km from Kannur to here in just seven hours.

The driver Thamim managed to cover the distance of at least 13 hours in seven with the help of Kerala Police and Child Protect Team organisation.

He picked the infant, Fathima Labia from the Kannur facility and dropped her to the SRI Chithra Mission Hospital.

Fathima had to undergo an emergency heart surgery. She was transported by road as the arrangement of air ambulance to the nearest airports could not be made possible.

Kerala Police in collaboration with an NGO, Child Protect Team organisation ensured that Thamim's ambulance could run without traffic hindrances.

Two SUVs reportedly accompanied the ambulance to make it run smooth.
