KOZHIKODE: A woman in Kozhikode in Kerala was forced to undergo an abortion after she was allegedly kicked in the stomach by a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
The 30-year-old woman was reportedly four months pregnant when she faced the assault. The incident took place when the woman tried to intervene in an argument which between her husband and a neighbour at her house. She reportedly said that she spoke up in the fight when two men started assaulting her husband. One of these men was a local CPI(M) leader.
While she was trying to mediate, she was kicked in the stomach and she started bleeding. She was taken to a hospital but the baby had to be aborted.
One person has been arrested in connection with the case however the main accused is still absconding. The victim's family has been claiming that they are being pressured by local CPI(M) workers not to disclose the identity of the accused.
They are also being asked to withdraw the case. However, the family is adamant that they will fight the case till the end. They have been holding protests outside the police station to keep up the pressure for a probe.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) workers have denied any role of their leader in any such incident.
