Lucknow: Polling for the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, spanning 67 constituencies in 11 districts, began on Wednesday morning amid tight security.
The fate of 721 candidates is to be sealed by balloting of 2.28 crore voters of which a sizable number (47.72 lakh) is of young voters, aged 18-19 years.

54.27 percent voter turnout was recorded till 3 pm in the second phase of polling.
Over 45 percent of the electorate have exercised their franchise by 2 pm in Uttar Pradesh.
In the same time, voting in Bareilly crossed 39 percent, while brisk voting in the early hours in Moradabad ensured 41 percent polling. In Shahjahanpur, polling was at 39 percent, while in Pilibhit, the parliamentary constituency of Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, it was at 42.
Over 40 percent voting was recorded in the second phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh till afternoon today. Maximum voting was reported from Saharanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri where voting crossed 42 percent till 1 pm.

The poll body said the decision has been taken in view of past instances of advertisements of offending and misleading nature in print media on such occasions which vitiate the elections.

Of the 67 seats at stake, ruling Samajwadi Party had won 34 in 2012, followed by BSP 18, BJP 10, Congress three and others two.
The districts where polling is being held today are Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Bareilly, Amroha, Pilibhit, Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Badaun.
