Srikakulam (AP): Eight bookies were arrested from a house near Kalaniketan showroom here in connection with a betting racket, police said on Monday.
On a tip off, district police raided the house yesterday and arrested Narayansetti Venkata Kiran, Manikyam Suribabu, Pasumarti Koti Babu, Pasumarti Jyothi Babu, Nandigam Srinivasa Patnaik, Tamma RamamMurty, Tankala Venkata Ramana, and Satyavarapu Lava Kumar, who were watching a cricket match and were betting on the game.
Police also recovered Rs 49,880 in cash along with a television from the house.
Investigations revealed that the accused taken the home on rent for betting purposes, they added.
Police have registered a case under Section 3 and Section 4 of IPC and the accused will be produced before the court for remand.
