Mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu's body to reach his native place today

The body of Indian mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu, who was found dead during an expedition in the mountains of Argentina last month, will reach his native place in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday evening.

Hyderabad: The body of Indian mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu, who was found dead during an expedition in the mountains of Argentina last month, will reach his native place in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday evening.

The body will arrive in Delhi from Argentina this morning and it reach Chennai in the afternoon, before reaching his native village Gandhi Janasangam in the evening, a state government release said, adding that Mastan Babu's sister Malli Dorasanamma is accompanying the mortal remains.

The funeral would be conducted with official honours, Andhra Pradesh Information and NRI Affairs Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said, in the release.

Babu, who had set a record of climbing seven summits, left for Argentina towards the end of March. He was untraceable later and was soon found dead in the mountains of Argentina.

There has been a delay in bringing the body to his native place due to inclement weather in Argentina's mountains, the release said.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who is from Nellore district, had sought intervention of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to bring back the mountaineer's body.
