Meira Kumar advocates land for landless farmers

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Saturday advocated giving lands to landless farmers as the growth of country`s economy rested on farmers.

Patna: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Saturday advocated giving lands to landless farmers as the growth of country`s economy rested on farmers.

"Just by providing certified seeds and other inputs, the lot of landless farmers could not be improved. They should have the feeling the land they are tilling belong to them,"
Kumar told a function here.
She said since India was an agricultural country, its economy would not shine if the lot of farmers was not improved. "The condition of labourers should also be bettered," Kumar told the function organised by `Sast Kisan Mazdoor Kisan Sanghthan` on the occasion of 88th birth anniversary of of her mother-in law, Sumitra Devi, first woman cabinet minister of undivided Bihar and a freedom fighter.

Kumar, daughter of former deputy prime minister Jagjivan Ram, said she had learnt everything about politics under the guidance of her father and mother-in-law.
