PM Narendra Modi congratulated Kumar on phone and extended his best wishes to the Bihar Chief Minister.

Modi also tweeted that he had “a telephonic conversation with Nitish and congratulated him on the victory”.

Kumar also confirmed the development through his Twitter handle.

The Janata Dal-United is now looking forward to making the next government in Bihar.

"Be it Patna region, Bhagalpur or any other region, we will soon pick up leads and results would be in our favour as the counting proceeds," JD(U) spokesperson Nihora Prasad had earlier said.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party conceded defeat in the Bihar elections even as full elections results were yet to be declared.

BJP vice president Prabhat Jha added, “We failed to understand people’s mind. We will have to change our election strategy.”

Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi also conceded defeat and said party bows before people's mandate and congratulates Lalu and Nitish on their victory.
