Raipur: A naxal commander and his wife surrendered before police in Maoist-hit Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday. The couple -- Vinod alias Gandram Yadav (30) and Jaymati (26) of Mad region -- were disappointed with the activities of their senior cadres following which they decided to lay their arms, Narayanpur Additional Superintendent of Police OP Sharma said. According to the officer, Vinod, a self-styled commander of Jhara LOS (Local Operation Squad) of CPI (Maoist) was associated with the movement since 2000. He led the cadre in several major operations in the Mad region. His wife Jaymati was a top member of Nelnar Area Committee of Maoist. She joined the movement in 2005, the ASP added. The reasons cited by them for leaving the movement are the deviation of the movement from its ideology and brutal activities of the senior cadres, he said. They will be rehabilitated as per the policies of the state government, he said. According to sources, the duo was active in Abhujmad region, considered as the stronghold of Maoists, and were involved in several incidents of crime including loot, arson and attacks on police parties.
