12 child labourers rescued in Delhi

Twelve children working as bonded labourers were rescued from west Delhi, police said.

New Delhi: Twelve children working as bonded labourers were rescued from west Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

The Delhi Police with the help of NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan rescued the 12 children from various premises in Nangloi after an operation was conducted Tuesday under the supervision of the sub-divisional magistrate of Punjabi Bagh and the collaboration of the labour department.
Police arrested five people - Avdesh Yadav (35), Pramod (25), Mujib Alip (30), Shahnoor Khan (34) and Abdul Majid (42).

"During the course of investigation, it was revealed nine children were from Uttar Pradesh and three from Bihar," the police said.

They added the children were working in shoe and bag manufacturing factories.
The police have lodged a complaint under various sections of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
