New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government of lying over granting full statehood to Delhi.
"Arun Jaitley should explain to the people as to why he and the BJP are lying since the past 20 years. All the previous leaders of BJP in Delhi have said that Delhi should get full statehood, they had also sent a resolution to the Parliament," AAP spokesperson Ashutosh told ANI here.
"Now, suddenly they have realised that Delhi should not get statehood. They are curtailing the powers of Delhi. They want Delhi Chief Minister to not appoint his own Chief Secretary. When the BJP, Congress, AAP have promised in the past that Delhi should get full statehood then from who is he trying to have a consensus. These are the three major parties then what is the hitch?" he asked.
Ashutosh asserted that the BJP wants to take revenge from the people of Delhi for rejecting them in the assembly elections.
"The fact is that they want to punish the people of Delhi because Delhi did not elect BJP this time and the people of Delhi had given massive mandate to AAP. That is what Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley and Amit Shah are doing. They are taking revenge from the people of Delhi for rejecting BJP in Delhi," he said.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had yesterday said that full statehood rights cannot be given unless there is a general consensus in the country on the issue as it is the national capital.
