New Delhi: All Metro stations in Central Delhi were opened for the commuters on Monday morning.
10 Metro stations have been out of bounds for several days in the last two weeks because of the protests against the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi.
Five out of the ten Metro stations in Central Delhi that were closed down for an indefinite period in the wake of the massive protests were opened for the commuters yesterday afternoon.
The Delhi Police had earlier issued advisory to all ten Metro stations to remain closed till further notice.
The decision to close down the Metro stations was taken by Delhi Police, which is making all efforts to prevent the protesters from reaching the India Gate.
Delhi Police, which has imposed Section 144 in various places of the national capital, had earlier on Saturday invoked murder charges against the six men allegedly involved in the gang-rape of the girl in a moving bus after she died in a Singapore hospital and decided to file the charge sheet in court on January 3.
Amid outpouring of anger and grief in the country, the body of the gang-rape victim was flown to New Delhi from Singapore early on Sunday morning and cremated within hours.
The girl was gang-raped and brutally assaulted allegedly by six men in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 16 night.
A series of peaceful marches and protests were held in the national capital on Sunday, including one at Jantar Mantar, to mourn the death of the victim even as India Gate and Raisina Hill were kept out of bounds for people.
The agitators are demanding stricter laws against the rapists.
