New Delhi: A 15-year-old girl was killed and three others, including her mother and aunt, suffered severe injuries when the the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck in east Delhi's Jyoti Nagar on Saturday.
The autorickshaw driver was also injured in the accident that took place near a traffic junction in Jyoti Nagar around 6 am, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Aarti, a student of a government school in Loni.
"The deceased and her relatives were heading towards north-east Delhi's Krishna Nagar area in an autorickshaw. On getting hit by the speeding truck, the autorickshaw flew several metres away and crashed onto a pavement," a police officer said.
The locals caught the driver of the truck and handed him over to the police. The truck was later impounded.
"Locals rescued the passengers and called up the police following which they were rushed to GTB hospital, where Aarti was declared brought dead," the officer added.
