New Delhi: Nine students of a government school in Seelampur area here were taken ill after consuming mid-day meal.

"Hours after consuming mid-day meal, few children started complaining of stomachache and vomiting. The school authorities immediately rushed all of them to the hospital," a senior police official said.

The students of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalya have been admitted to Jag Parvesh Chand hospital.

While seven of them were discharged from hospital after preliminary treatment, two of them are under treatment.

"We have sought details from the doctors to ascertain the cause of the girls' ill health and will take action accordingly," the official said.

The Education Department authorities, however, said the issue is not related to mid-day meal.

"We have got it checked. There was no issue with the mid-day meal. One of the girls is suffering from jaundice and other one is reportedly allergic to rice and she used to carry her own food," Education Director, Padmini Singhla told PTI.

A recent RTI query had revealed that the quality testing of the food served under the mid-day meal programme in Delhi Government schools is on hold since last four months due to non-empanelment of testing labs.
