New Delhi: Dubbing the Odd-Even formula to be a `gimmick` former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday accused the Arvind Kejriwal-led government of paying money to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers acting as volunteers when this scheme is in force.
"The volunteers during the road rationing scheme are the Aam Aadmi Party workers, the government pays them Rs. 500 to 700," Dikshit claimed.
"Is this a way to give away the income to the party workers? During the entire Odd Even scheme, the party workers would earn between Rs. 8000 to 10,000. This has been done very cleverly" she added.
Dikshit further said the government needs to look for long-term solutions rather than implementing schemes which cause inconvenience to the people.
"The metros can`t be made overnight but the government should have bought buses. Chief Minister should pay heed to the transport improvement and should end this kind of gimmick," she added.
The former Delhi chief minister stated that the Odd Even scheme in its first part failed to reduce pollution in the national capital.
"I fail to understand as to what it is? It is a gimmick. Looking at the number of advertisements on the scheme it seems so," Dikshit said."The government hasn`t paid heed to the negatives of the scheme," she added.
The second phase of the Odd-Even traffic scheme will start on April 15 and will continue for a fortnight.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier announced guidelines for the second leg of the `odd-even` traffic scheme in Delhi, saying women drivers and vehicles carrying students in uniform will be exempted from the restrictions.
Delhi`s chief minister and ministers would not be exempted from `odd-even` restrictions, he said.
He also launched a helpline for `odd-even` part two."People can call on 011-422400400 if they have any questions related to odd-even traffic scheme.
"The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will gauge the impact of the second phase of the Odd-Even plan on the capital`s air quality at 119 locations in and around the city.
