New Delhi: The Delhi government has initiated a dialogue with education ministries of Finland, Brazil, UK and Germany with an aim to adopt the best practises and systems in setting up of skill university in the national capital.
"The pioneers of the skill education from across the world including Finland, Brazil and United Kingdom are being roped in to partner with the Delhi Government in transformation of the overall education in the city," an official statement said.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is currently participating in the World Skills 2015 at Sao Paulo, Brazil and the key focus of the dialogue is skills and technical education.
"Sisodia held discussions with the senior officials of the Ministry of Education, Finland, Finnish National Board of Education, Finnish Academy for Skills Excellence, Hame University of Applied Sciences to explore the possibility of institutional level tie-ups and to adopt the best practises in the world," the statement said.
"During his visit to SENAI, Mariano Ferraz Campus, Sao Paulo, he held detailed discussions with the top management, faculty and research administrators about setting up of Delhi Skills University on the lines of SENAI, which has current enrolment of over seven lakh students. An MoU between Delhi Government and SENAI is expected shortly," it added.
A delegation led by Sisodia who is also Delhi's education minister also had detailed discussions with World Skills President Simon Bartley and David Hoey, CEO about expansion of meaningful and job oriented vocational and technical education.
India is also participating in the 43rd World Skills Competition being held in Brazil from August 11-16.
The competition takes place every two years and is the world's largest and most important competition in the field of vocational education. Competitors from 57 countries simulate real work challenges that must be completed to international standards of quality.
"The Deputy Chief Minister has also initiated discussions to host World Skills Competition 2021 in Delhi. The next edition of Competition will take place in 2017 at Abu Dhabi," the statement said.
