New York: Notwithstanding the October 1 deadline to submit Intended Nationally Determined Contributions on reducing emissions, India could declare it on the next day with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi providing "a very good opportunity," a top official has said.
"Certainly we will be declaring the INDCs. October 2 is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who himself was a passionate believer in sustainable development. That itself might be a very good opportunity for us to declare our INDCs at that time," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said yesterday.
Nations have an October 1 deadline to submit their INDCs.
All eyes are on India, a fast growing economy, on what its INDCs will be as nations prepare to meet in December this year for the crucial Paris Climate Change Summit.
