CAG report exposes BJP's record in Gujarat: Congress leader

Congress on Thursday targeted BJP over a CAG report on the 'total sanitation campaign' of Gujarat Government in the name of Swachh Bharat campaign.

Ahmedabad: Congress on Thursday targeted BJP over a CAG report on the 'total sanitation campaign' of Gujarat Government in the name of Swachh Bharat campaign.

"The CAG report exposes that 5,000 anganwadis in Gujarat are without toilets. It says that 57 schools are without teachers, and that schools also do not have toilets," Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil claimed quoting the report.

"There should be a provision for separate toilets for girls in schools, but that has also not been done in many schools as per the CAG report," Gohil alleged.

Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress leader charged him with not giving attention to cleanliness and sanitation in Gujarat during his 12 years tenure as the chief minister of the state.

"The CAG report exposes the record of his work at a time he (Modi) when he is seeking publicity in the name of Swachh Bharat Campaign," Gohil said.

"When CAG reports used to say something bad about the UPA government, BJP used to say that facts given by the independent constitutional agency are right. However, now they are not ready to accept what the CAG report has said about their administration," he said.

The BJP government had tabled the audit report on local bodies for the year ended March 2013, in the recently held two-day session of the Gujarat state assembly.
