Ahmedabad: A Chinese fishing trawler on its route to Iran took "shelter" at Diu coast near Gujarat today, since the sea was not friendly for sailing, an Indian Coast Guard official said here on Thursday.

"They (the Chinese trawler's crew members) are at anchorage in Diu. They were going from China to Iran but since the (Arabian) sea is very hostile, they requested Government of India and the Coast Guard for shelter.

They are now in Diu where they are anchored," Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran, Commander Coast Guard Region (North West), told PTI.

Sheoran said that there is nothing suspicious about the trawler which is being monitored by the Indian Coast Guard.

"They will stay there until the weather improves and then go to Iran. There is nothing suspicious in it. A Coast Guard aircraft is monitoring it. The Coast Guard will surely investigate, but nothing suspicious has come up until now".

A Coast Guard team is set to board the Chinese trawler tomorrow to find out the number of crew members," Sheoran said.
