Eminent cardiologist welcomes proposed health bill

New Delhi: Terming the proposed bill to
ensure equitable distribution of medical facilities across the
population as a good move, a senior AIIMS cardiologist has
said the measure would ensure universal access to health care.

Instead of targeted intervention, the government
should ensure universal access of health facilities for all
citizens, K Srinath Reddy said.

"The state should become a guarantor of health care
for all its citizens," he said adding, the law should look
into the contribution of all sectors towards the health of
citizens like sanitation, nutrition and other areas.

The senior cardiologist also favored a National
Health Service so that the health systems respond to all
citizens.
