Medical marvel: Woman gives birth to baby after womb transplant

New Delhi: In a medical marvel, a woman in Sweden has given birth to a baby after receiving a womb transplant.

The 36-year-old mother is the world's first woman to give birth using a transplanted womb, giving hopes to thousands of childless parents.

The baby boy was born prematurely last month by a Caesarean section weighing 1.775 kilos (3.9 pounds).

The Swedish woman was found to have born with healthy ovaries, but without a uterus. So, the mother received the uterus from a close family friend who had been through menopause.

Both baby and the mother are now said to be doing well.
