Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described knowledge as the focal point of all religions and said that education helped societies to come out of darkness.

Addressing a gathering of scholars, historians and diplomatic representatives at the release function of the book, "Education of Muslims: An Islamic Perspective of Knowledge and Education - Indian Context" by JS Rajput, the Prime Minister said that education could become the strength of the entire SAARC region.

He also said that if the region did not embrace modernity, it would get left behind, as the rest of the world progresses.

“Some societies exist where there are people who dedicate their life to education. They are the ones who lead that society to development. It is education that has lead to societies developing, coming to modernity and coming out of darkness,” he said, as per ANI.

Further, PM Modi said that it was the good fortune of people living in India, that they had the opportunity to follow, understand and learn so many different religions, and strands of thought, at one place.

“In our country every community considers knowledge to be of primary importance. Knowledge offers light and encouragement,” he said.

“After Allah, the second highest word that appears in the Quran is 'ilm' (knowledge). We have this information but we forget it,” he added.
