Mumbai: Mumbai Road Transport Office on Tuesday terminated for life the driving license of corporate lawyer Jhanvi Gadkar in the drunk driving case.
In June last year, Jhanvi had crashed her Audi into a taxi resulting into the death of two people. She had been driving under the influence of alcohol on the Eastern Freeway in Mumbai. Four others were left injured in the incident.
Gadkar has been booked for culpable homicide, not amounting to murder and carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison. She has been out on bail since August 5, 2015.
Gadkar's lawyers were twice given opportunity to explain their side of the case with regards to her driving licence. During both the occasions Gadkar herself did not turn up, resulting in revoking of driving rights. The authorities cancelled her licence on the basis of her being a dangerous driver.
